笑容燦爛的陳生幾十年前在這裏第一件完成的扎作是像衣箱，現在則以花園洋樓的扎作為主。花園洋樓不過已改由內地入口，再在店內加工。扎作品種類正顯示了中國人的價值觀：花園洋樓、金銀衣紙，把生時的物質生活一律搬到另一境界。Mr. Chan runs his business here over thirty years. The first ritual paper work he made is a case for clothes. And now, ‘big house’ (with garden) are the paper works he always makes. He imports the semi-finished ‘big house’ from mainland China, and subcontract the final work in his shop. Traditional ritual paper work tells the value of Chinese. Wherever/whenever we are, physical satisfaction seems much important than meta-physics.

由1969年在此開業至今已41年，貌似林子祥的老闆陳生與母親天天雖工作12小時，但並不言累。陳生說他們寓工作於娛樂，邊做邊與街坊閒聊，日子過得很快。這裡每件食品都由陳生逐一親手寫上價錢，絕不用貼紙標價，以便老人家看價錢。就算小額買賣，陳生也會提供送貨服務與有需要的老街坊。他說：「舉手之勞，也是小店的人情味所在。」談話時見到一位七旬舊街坊，老遠由將軍澳跑來買10只雞蛋。她說這裏的雞蛋特別新鮮。陳生認為當今個人不重視人格在信用上的重要性，迷你債券事件，揭示了問題所在，人與人、與大企業之間皆是信心大破產。

Mr. Chan and his mother run their business since 1969. Although they work over 12 hours a day, they don’t feel tired. Mr. Chan explained that he enjoys chatting with people while working. He writes price in bigger size instead of labeling the price sticker, as it is much easier for elderly people to check the price of goods. He sometimes delivers goods by himself to the elder people even they just only buy a small amount of goods. He said, ‘it really doesn’t matter to me, but a kind of concern to them.’ When I talked with them, a 70-years-old lady came from Junk Bay to buy only 10pcs. of egg. She said that the eggs here is much better than others’. Mr. Chan said that trust is base on behavior of someone, but people don’t care much. The case of Lehman Brothers show the bankruptcy of trust between individuals and global enterprises.

早年潮州女子少有受教育機會，所以李太從小便在爸爸的衣紙山寨廠工作。而李生家則經營香燭生意，真是「門當戶對」。兩人合力經營興發幾十年，把祖傳扎作技巧，變化出多重不同款式的製品。可惜在兩年前後門的一場大火，把保存下來的扎作(包括「飛機」、「遊艇」)盡燒。拆遷後因地方有限，也不想李太過份辛勞，兩口子決定不再做大型祭品。若要欣賞他們的扎作，請在3月5日的驚墊(打小人日)、3月24日的春社日到門前空地便可。(新址：牛頭角道55號利基大廈)

In early years, ladies of Chaozhou origin rarely have opportunities of receiving education.  Therefore Mrs. Lee has worked in his father’s ritual paper shop since young age.  As a perfect match, Mr. Lee’s family runs a business of Chinese traditional incense and candles.  They have been jointly operating Hing Fat for several decades, applying skills inherited from their ancestors on their making of different kinds of products.  Two years ago, a fire destroyed the preserved products (including the “airplane” and “yacht”).  The couple decided not to make large-sized ritual paper product after demolition and relocation because of the limited space and Mrs. Lee’s fatigues.  If you wish to have a look of their works, please come to the open area in front of the shop on 5 March (traditional day of “beating up” the bad people) and 24 March (traditional day of sacrificial offerings to the earth god).  (New address: Lee Kee Building, 55 Ngau Tau Kok Road, Kowloon)

原名是國華電髮院，後由其他人頂手改名喜蓮美容院。由電髮院改名美容院，表述了時尚與時代的不同。原有電髮院的摺閘，用了幾十年的電髮院摺閘和椅子終在2月已被電影公司收購。當我把摺閘的照片送上時，朱老闆難掩感觸，說要把照片當古董保存，是睹物思人吧！日後朱生會轉往觀塘開平理髮室工作。

Originally named as “Kwok Wah Hair-Perming Salon”, the Kwok Wah Hay Lin Beauty Salon was renamed after the change of owner.  The change from “hair-perming salon” to “beauty salon” witnesses differences in fashion and periods.  The folded gate of the salon, which has been used for several decades, was purchased by a film company in February.  When I gave Mr. Chu, the boss, the photo of the folded gate, with an expression of melancholy on his face, said he would preserve the photo as if it’s a piece of antique.  Mr. Chu will work in a hairdressing salon in Hoi Ping Road, Kwun Tong after demolition.  

陳老闆廿多年來都在牛頭角不同位置擺檔買賣。小小的車子上有條不紊的利用有限的空間以各種懸掛與伸縮方式展示琳瑯滿目的髮飾用品。創意級別屬五星級。
The boss Mr. Chan, has been setting up his mobile stall at different locations in Ngau Tau Kok for over 20 years.  Making use of the limited space of his trolley, trays and iron racks are attached, and the varied, colourful hair accessories are either hung or laid neatly. What a high level of creativity is displayed.

大排檔日間叫品香輝煌餐廳，由陳太打理。晚上陳太則休息，由丈夫陳生兼營餐廳外圍的大排檔生意。這兒的潮州打冷不錯，價錢中等。建議晚上大夥兒圍住大排檔圓桌打冷，談天說地。The “Tai Pai Dong” (Street-side Food Stall) is called Pan Heung Fai Wong Restaurant in daytime and it is managed by Mrs. Chan.  At night, Mrs. Chan is off and Mr. Chan takes care of the restaurant and the street-side food stalls around.  The Chiu Chow dishes are at reasonable prices.  It would be a nice idea for a party of friends to sit around the table, enjoy the laughter and try out the Chiu Chow cuisine.

蔡旭威 John Choy是房署委託以攝影作牛角紀錄攝影師，這裏的街坊都把他待成這裏的一份子，因他相信攝影是與人溝通的工具。按下快門只是不足一秒之事，但在他紀錄過程中往往花上小時計的時間，先與街坊閒聊，了解他們的世界才紀錄他們與牛角。而其實這也是尊重別人的方式，街坊因此很樂意合作。他強調攝影(Photography)是讓人「認識」(to know)身邊的事物，而不是「攝獵」(to capture) 事物。牛角因快要清拆，很遊人會在此拍攝，街坊現在已覺得造成騷擾。可否在拍攝前，先問准街坊一聲，讓大家有個愉快經驗？John Choy is the photographer consigned by Housing Department. He has a very good relationship with the people in NTK, because he believes that camera is a tool of communication. It takes less than a second to take a photo, but he can spend hours to chat with subjects, and to know their worlds. It actually is a way of respect the subjects, his friends, so that friends always like to be taken photo. He always emphasizes that photography is not a technique to capture and possess objects for us, but to know our worlds. Many tourists come to NTK and take photos everyday, and it becomes disturbance to neighbors here. Would you ask for permission before taking photo? You may have an unexpected experience with your subjects.
