近年編者參加過有關西九文娛藝術區的民間座談會、論壇與研討會不少，積極參與者多是文化與藝術界人士。當圈中人都多就各人所處的位置發表了對西九的意見時，一位中年男士所表達的意見最令筆者記憶猶新。那應該是四月在創意書院舉行的座談會，那位男士說：「我在今天幾小時的討論所聽到的，都是文化界從你們的角度考慮西九應如何規劃。但是，我，作為一位普通的香港市民，兩位小朋友的父親，西九與我，有何相干？我只是很簡單的，希望星期天有多一個有花有草的地方，帶我們的孩子去遊玩。那麼，天幕建築對我們來說，當然需要，它避免我們要日晒雨淋。至於你們所說到西九應該表現本土的社區藝術，其實這些早就在每區的文娛活動中心進行，為甚麼又要在西九發生？…」星斗市民一樣會以微觀與宏觀的方式關心我們西九的規劃。10月25日、11月8日、12月6日，政府規行的三場公眾論壇，希望有更多不只是界別人士，更加是公民社會的參與。

Editor has participated in many civic forums, conferences and seminars about West Kowloon recently and most of the participants are members from the art or cultural fields. When most of the insiders busy commenting and bargaining about their own benefits, the opinion expressed from a middle-aged man impressed me the greatest. It was the forum held in April in which the gentleman said, “Today, I heard a few hours of discussion, which are the cultural perspective on how to plan for the West Kowloon. But for me, an ordinary Hong Kong citizen, the father of two children, I simply hope to spend the Sundays with our kids to play in a green area. So the Atrium is, of course, a must to shield us from the sun and rain.
